From 30 July to 2 August, Kraków will become the capital of world triathlon. Thousands of athletes from Poland and abroad will take on Enea IRONMAN 70.3 Kraków, while residents and tourists will have the opportunity to cheer them on in some of the city’s most iconic locations.
The triathlon weekend in Kraków will get underway on Saturday morning, 1 August. At 9:00, runners will line up for the Good Morning Run Kraków, taking on a 5 km course. The start and finish will be located in the Main Market Square, with the route taking runners towards Wawel Castle and the Vistula Boulevards.
Most of the Good Morning Run Kraków course has been planned on roads closed to vehicle traffic. Traffic restrictions will only be in place from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM in the Main Market Square, on Grodzka and Podzamcze streets, along Czerwieński Boulevard and Inflancki Boulevard, on Bernardyńska Street and at Father Adam Studziński Square.
Kids take over the Main Market Square
At noon on the same day, the Main Market Square will be taken over by children as Pho3nix IRONKIDS Kraków gets underway. Depending on their age, the youngest athletes will take on distances ranging from 100 to 1,500 metres. The courses will be located within the Main Market Square, near Św. Anny, Bracka and Grodzka streets. Registration for Pho3nix IRONKIDS Kraków is still open.
Sunday belongs to the triathletes
The triathlon race will begin at 8:00 with the swim in Zakrzówek. Athletes will complete a 1.9 km course in one of the most beautiful open-water swimming locations in Poland.
They will then head out on a fast 90 km bike course through Kraków and the scenic areas of the Wieliczka and Bochnia districts. The final stage of the race will be a half marathon (21.1 km) through the historic city centre. Just like last year, the finish line will be located in the Main Market Square.
Traffic changes along the bike course
The biggest traffic restrictions will be in place along the bike course on Sunday, 2 August, from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
The course will follow:
– Wyłom Street,
– Norymberska Street,
– Łagiewnicka Route (including Roztworowskiego Street),
– Witosa Street,
– Nowosądecka Street,
– Wielicka Street,
– National Road 94 in the Wieliczka and Bochnia districts,
– Road 965, Kazimierza Brodzińskiego Street, Kazimierza Wielkiego Street and the Market Square in Bochnia.
The return to Kraków will follow the same route before continuing along:
– Wielicka Street,
– Nowosądecka Street,
– Witosa Street,
– Łagiewnicka Route (including Roztworowskiego Street),
– Norymberska Street,
– Tyniecka Street,
– the Tyniecka Street boulevard under Zwierzyniecki Bridge,
– Poleski Boulevard,
– Dębnicki Bridge, using the lane towards Zwierzyniecka Street,
– Zwierzyniecka Street,
– Powiśle Street,
– Plac na Groblach.
Running through the heart of Kraków
The run leg will take place from 10:00 AM to 5:45 PM. The course will pass through some of Kraków’s most iconic locations:
– Plac na Groblach
– Straszewskiego Street
– Podzamcze Street
– Father Adam Studziński Square
– Grodzka Street
– Main Market Square
– Bernardyńska Street
– Inflancki Boulevard to the Silesian Insurgents Bridge
– Czerwieński Boulevard
Thanks to the course layout, spectators will be able to watch the athletes close to Wawel Castle, the Main Market Square and along the Vistula River.
Crossing points will allow traffic to pass through the race course
To reduce disruption for residents, special crossing points will be set up along the bike course, allowing vehicles to cross closed sections during gaps between athletes. Traffic will be supervised by the event staff and the Police.
Crossing point locations:
– intersection of Grota Roweckiego Street and Norymberska Street in Kraków – access will only be available for KMK public transport (trams and buses)
– intersection of Turowicza Street and Herberta Street in Kraków (the bike course runs through the tunnel) – uninterrupted access will be available throughout the event
– intersection of Witosa Street, Nowosądecka Street and Łużycka Street in Kraków
– intersection of Nowosądecka Street, Kamieńskiego Street and Wielicka Street in Kraków – access will only be available for KMK public transport
– intersection of Wielicka Street, Teligi Street and Kostaneckiego Street in Kraków – access will only be available for emergency vehicles travelling to and from the hospital
– Kosocicka Street in Kraków – uninterrupted access will be available throughout the event via the tunnel under the bike course
– intersection of National Road 94 and Bogucka Street in Wieliczka
– intersection of National Road 94 and Czarnochowska Street in Wieliczka
– intersection of National Road 94 and Niepołomska Street (Regional Road 964) in Wieliczka
– intersection of National Road 94 and Krakowska Street in Grodkowice
– overpass above National Road 94 in Sułków
– tunnel under National Road 94 in Bodzanów
– tunnel under National Road 94 in Słomiróg
– overpass above National Road 94 in Brzezie
Throughout the event, uninterrupted access will be available at selected locations, including the tunnel at Turowicza and Herberta streets and the tunnel under the bike course at Kosocicka Street.
At selected intersections, access will be limited to public transport or emergency vehicles, including vehicles travelling to the hospital on Wielicka Street.
Plan your journey in advance
The organisers encourage residents and anyone planning to travel through Kraków and the surrounding area to check the race courses and the times of traffic restrictions in advance. This will help avoid unnecessary delays and ensure the smooth organisation of one of the largest sporting events held in Małopolska.
